THE FIRST STEPS TO TRAINING

Before you can take your ambulance training courses, there are a few requirements that you will need to meet. Firstly, you must be over 18 and already have a class B (car) driving licence. From here, you will need to carry out the following:

1. Medical Assessment: You will need to arrange for your doctor to complete a D4 medical form on your behalf to ensure that you fit the medical requirements to drive an ambulance.

2. Provisional Licence: Once you have your completed D4 form, this will need to be submitted to the DVSA along with your D2 and current driving licence. Your licence will be sent back to you with a provisional C1 licence added.

3. Theory Test: You will need to complete a LGV theory and hazard perception test. You will need to get 85% on your multiple choice and 67/100 on your hazard perception.

We will add you to our online theory training platform to help you revise for the tests, we can also step in and help in any areas you are struggling.

PART 3.A - THE REVERSE MANOUVER

How the test works. Your test will last up to 30 minutes, consists of an S shape reversing manoeuvre into a coned area representing a loading bay, backing up to a barrier stopping just short of it with the rear most part of the vehicle stopping within the black box.

We are accredited to hold test at our own site now making it far more comfortable being able to take test exactly where you have trained.

SHOW ME / TELL ME QUESTIONS

You’ll be asked some vehicle safety questions on the day of your lorry test. This will normally consist of 4 - 5 show me / tell me questions before heading out on the road.

During your training time we will walk you around all these questions so you are fully prepared on the day.

THE DRIVING TEST

This may seem like a long way off right now but the more knowledge we can give you to prepare the better.

Your driving test will last around 1 hour, on the road you will cover various conditions of driving from country lanes, town centre to dual carriage ways.

You will also conduct around 4 to 5 pull up on the left hand side of the road when safe todo so this will also include uphill, down hill, starts.

You will also conduct a 10 minute independent drive during the test following road signs.
